An L.A. Sort of Place by Paul Jasmin

Casa de Costa is pleased to present An L.A. Sort of Place by Paul Jasmin, opening on September 3rd in New York City. The exhibition is a rich survey of more than fifty years of work by the artist and educator, and the first such show of Jasmin’s career.

A Montana native, Jasmin found his way to Los Angeles via New York and has called L.A. his home ever since. Over 30 plus years, he’s photographed scores of Hollywood stars and hopefuls, models and friends, for titles like Vogue, GQ, V Magazine and W. He has acted in films, illustrated and photographed fashion campaigns, and published three monographs of his work. He sits on the faculty at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and was recently dubbed, “the photo laureate of Los Angeles,” by Interview Magazine.

Jason Costa, President of Casa de Costa says, “Jazz is a legend. On top of producing an incredible body of his own work, he’s educated a generation of artists on the West Coast. His story is one-of-a-kind.”

An L.A. Sort of Place catalogs Jasmin’s dreamy and sensuous vision of Los Angeles in an extensive collection of new and vintage prints. The show includes landscapes from Jasmin’s “city of dreams” shown alongside his romantic portraits of young Hollywood stars. Jasmin masterfully evokes nostalgia for a mythically glamorous bygone time and place, and casts impossibly handsome subjects as its inhabitants.

An L.A. Sort of Place opened on Wednesday, September 3rd at 6PM and runs through Thursday, October 23rd.
