About Gio Black Peter

Gio Black Peter (aka. Giovanni Paolo Andrade Guevara), was born in Guatemala in 1979. In 1984 he and his family immigrated to the United States. It was in New York where Gio first made a name for himself as an underground performance artist, actor and painter.

 

Gio's multi-disciplinary work has been exhibited internationally for the past 10 years. Selected exhibitions include the 30th International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères, Galerie L'axolotl in Toulon, Palais de Tokyo and Library of Arts in Paris, Envoy Enterprises in New York, and the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles, among others.

 

He has collaborated regularly with Bruce LaBruce, Slava Mogutin and Brian Kenny. In 2008 Gio appeared in LaBruce’s feature length film, ”Otto, or Up with Dead People." The controversial film was screened at Sundance, Torino and MoMA. Additionally, LaBruce directed Gio’s 2011 music video, “Revolving Door, New Fuck New York."


Gio lives and works in New York City.
